I just got a new horse that is for a beginner rider, and today I am going to go rider her, everyone says that she will teach me how to ride, but a few tips won’t hurt me.
Well I guess I wasn’t exactly honest, I have ridden before but only western, and I did notget past troting. I have also ridden bareback on our ponies. But I have never ridden english and that is how I’ll be riding her. She is perfect on the ground but you never know. We arelooking into lessons this week but if I ride her beforehand I will know if Ishould get her trained more first. But she is trained in english, western, barrel racing, and has done some low jumps. But I am a beginner riding english so I need some tips.

Ride her with a bareback pad (without stirrups).

A bareback pad will help you build balance, and if you do fall off, there is nothing to get hung up on and dragged.

Wear boots without laces and a riding helmet, every time you ride. People suffer brain damage all the time from falls…so protect your head!

Use a snaffle bridle, and when you are turning, pull on one rein to turn.

Lessons are a great start. Horses are so smart, she will know the moment you hop on that you are a beginner. If she is a good beginner horse she will allow you to make mistakes several times before correcting you.

Enjoy your horse!

First of all, be paitient with her. I think she will teach you how to ride but she has to get used to you and the way you command her to do things.

stand straight and if you want the horse to move tap it with your legs gentely and if you want the horse to stop pull the rope on his neck genetly not too hard or he will stand with the back off his legs and might throw you off and if you want to turn left hit him by your left leg genetly and if you want to turn right hit him with your right leg that’s it GOOD LUCK and have a safe ride

The only one who can teach you how to ride. Is a trainer. Start with the basics. Are you riding hunter/jumper, dressage, or western? If you are a hunter/jumper, remember to keep your heels down, and make sure you know how to post properlyIf you want to know more, or want some tips, email me at jon82987@sbcglobal.net If I were you, I would take advantage of this, seeing as how if I were actually teaching you, it would cost you alot of money.lol

She will not teach you how to ride! You must get lessons in the future but for today remember…
1.sit up tall, don’t look down look eye level at all times!
2.don’t go into a trot or canter until you know how to control your horse or take lessons!
3.you heels need to down in the stirrup, below your toes,(imagine that they’re are roots attached to the bottom of you boot attached to the ground!
4.if you want a sharp turn or a small Circle, lock the outside arm and pull with the other, and kick with the outside leg and pulse with the inside leg!
    HOPE THIS HELPS
this is more for western,i don’t ride English!
    Good luck!

Talk to the horse in a loving voice. Make sure your voice is filled with confidence and love, horses can tell if you are scared by your voice and body movements. Keep calm. Keep your heels down (( helps with balance )). Ummmm, and have someone stay outside with you until your sure you can do this alone.
    Good luck !

English is all about balance and grace. If you trust your horse you will have a better riding experience. You might want to try western on her first since you said you have had experince with that untill u get to know the horse and feel comfortable. But I highly recommend a trainer, someone that you can give you lessons and possibly train the horse if needed. Find a trainer that you trust, because trust is the most important thing in horseback riding.

Horses are very keen and know affection. If you get a Quarter Horse or Guilding at a young age where it can grow up with you it is better, but some Horses are already broken for riding, but I personally prefer to have a Colt and raise him up myself to know who is the one that loves you the most!

take a few beginner lessons before you attempt by your self. if you try by yourself, there is no one knowledgable that can control the horse if you cant or if it freaks out. after a few times of lessons, you can start riding alone and maybe take lessons once a month or get into a four H group and take advice from local people who can watch you and give you pointers. :)
