I want to start to learn to ride, can anyone give me some of the basics, what to do, what not to do, best breed, etc…

I really want to do it, I have sort of done it but I usually get to scared to trot or canter, so can someone give me some tips to not be so afraid, etc…

it looks like it is really fun, and it probably is, I love animals and enjoy going riding horses(walking) for long periods of time but I want to get some more enjoyment out of it and do some cantering or trotting but like said above, I get quite scared and get butterflies, so any tips?

Cheers

I agree with the previous poster. Find a trainer and take lessons. Most good trainers will have horse for you to ride. Most charge a bit extra for providing the horse. Try to find a stable in your area and ask the stable keeper to give you references for finding a trainer. Good luck.

You should get a hold of a local trainer that does lesson. They will probably have a horse and teach you everything you need to know. It usually costs between 20-45 bucks an hour.

It depends on what kind of saddle you’re using. I cant ride english style- only western- i ride western because you have better balance, and also a saddle horn to hold onto if u feel like you’re going to fall off. I could never canter or even trot…… but the best thing to think about is- pretend your riding one of those fake horses that you use 25 cents to ride……. thats how i learned how to canter…….. and then i knew that trotting is easier so i tried that….. and it worked…… now i ride bareback all the time……. its a lot of fun and when you get better at doing all this stuff you can canter bareback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hope this helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i also prefer riding a thoroughbred or mustang…… and never go behind a horse…. stay at least 6-7 feet behind it…… or lay your hand on the rear and walk really close……. and when you get on bareback- never kick him/her in the flank…… thats how i got bucked off. also never-ever run up to a horse and also never talk or scream real loud because you can end up on the ground…….. ok now i hope this helped!!!!!!!!!!
