Would these 6 lessons be enough for me to go on hacks now and then?

Would I get a certificate to say I’ve reached a certain level good enough to go on hacks?

It really depends upon your personal aptitude for riding. I’ve known folks who took to riding and were cantering on their 2nd ride, and others who after 6 months still weren’t secure enough to canter off a lunge line.

Certificates are given out by individual stables occasionally, but one certificate of achievement probably won’t mean anything outside of that organisation.

I think you might. In 6 lessons you could learn to trot. It took me 6 months to canter with 1 one hour lesson a week.

N o you most certainly could not gallop. actually most people who ride horses have never actually galloped anyway . They think they have but I can assure you they have not. yes you could possibly trot and canter but I really think the horse would be in control and not you. A little bit of advice is please dont try to force yourself until you are ready otherwise you could frighten yourself off completely, and or injure yourself seriously.yes you could go on certain hacks , so long as everyone is at same standard, cause if you have experienced riders mixed with novices then it just does not happen , as the more experienced want to go at a faster pace and the novices cannot cope or fall off
please believe me on this. Take care and enjoy your riding.

Im with L L on this. don’t push yourself!!! i was three when i took my first lesson. at 8 i pushed myself and i got afraid and wouldn’t get on a horse for a year. it took me i dont kno how many years after that to finally get to the point where i would let go of the horn at a walk. i only started really riding and working with horses two years ago at age 15. that was the first time that i galloped my horse. trust me alot of ppl think they are galloping when they are just doing a fast canter.

You guys get certificates for riding, no way. it took me three lessons to learn to jump, and my sister four. but trust me, shes a little worse for wear. the longer you take getting to know riding, the safer you’ll be. you will learn at your own pace. Sandra, my darling step sister, was canter, albeit by mistake, by the end of her fourth lesson. she looks ridiculus on a horse, no style, no position, and ask her for more than a trot/ canter on a large circle and she stuffs the whole thing up. you need a good grounding to your work, let yourself absorb everything, never rush anything with horseriding.

Yes you can go hacking, if you feel confident. my dad was 22 when he got on the back of a horse for the first time, on a hack, through the bush, and ended up having to gallop anyway because a herd of happy wildebees were chasing them. agian its all your ability that counts. if you are comfy to hack, go for it. walk your first few until you feel you can control yourself and the horse. remember, horses love hacking so are more forward going. dont do anything you arent comfy with.

    have fun
