i know that’s a bit but i don’t know what kind?
& what are those red & blue things called and used for?
& whats a reasonable price for each of them? they are used but not very much.
im stuck selling off the horse stuff and don’t know hardly anything about it all. (=

I have bought a similar bit off ebay, I think it was about $10 + postage. It was used but in good condition.

here is an auction, watch it, will give you an idea of price, You will need to measure the bit to sell it, people will want to know what size it is. Measure from the inside of each ring, look at the pic to see how/where to measure.

2. Bandages, leg wraps or polo wraps, depending what country you live in , to be specific they look like exercise bandages, because they look stretchy. Used for protection/support.

Any good horse books that tell the tale of the horse from the west not just fiction stuff?

I love that kind of books that tell of the horse from the west. The Book Hearts of Horses is one that i am thinking of. Just some kind of book that is not like black beauty and those fiction type of books.

Anything by Will James is GOLD. They’re fiction, but authenticity rolls off them in waves.

What brands of horse stuff do you recommend?

spot remover/touch up spray shampoo stuff

I just discovered a fly spry that seems to work better than most; it’s called "Final Fly." (Can’t remember who makes it, though.) I use plain old glycerine soap and 100% Neatsfoot oil on my tack (I’m old-school). I use "Miracle Groom" (in a purplish bottle) for touch-ups in between grooming, "Show Sheen" coat polish and mane/tail conditioner, and whatever shampoo’s on sale at Dollar General.

if they ban horse slaughter why do some people ship horses to mexico and stuff?

Ig congress just banned horse slaughter in the US, and the last plant was shut down in 2007, why are they still transporting horses to Mexico and other countries to be slaughtered? Or that’s just underground now?

As has been said, the USA might have passed laws to close horse slaughter but other countries have not. By closing abattoirs dealing with horses the US government has condemned horses to hours of travel and stress ending up with a nasty death.

jo d has quoted from Save a Horse now but, what is stated is not true – there are many unwanted horses, to many being bred by people who have a mare and a friend has a stallion with no thought to how much a foal will cost in money and time.

Rather than banning slaughter of horses into the meat chain what should be done is to encourage all abattoirs to open their doors for a day a month to horses – with stricter regulations on how these animals are dealt with.
Banning has not stopped the slaughter just added more stress, so admit it was wrong and tighten the laws so it is humane and make sure that the law is adhered to.

MTG made black gooey stuff on horse?

Last week I got a rescue horse who is very underweight and looks as if he has rain rot on his back. So I put MTG on it and it made some black gooey weird stuff where I put it on. I’ve used MTG on my other horses and this has never happened. Is it normal? Has anyone had it happen? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

MTG is really not the treatment of choice for something like rain rot, since it is an anaerobic bacterial infection. That means that the bacteria actually thrive when you cover them with petroleum/tar products like this.
Exposure to air kills anaerobes, so you want to get the scabs off and expose the skin to air. I would use Hibiscrub which has been shown to be the best cleanser for dermatophilus congolensis bacteria (cause rain rot and mud fever). Humans as well as horses can be infected with this bacterium, which lives in the skin and can begin multiplying in wet conditions. Hibiscrub is available at any drug store. I also use 0.9% sterile saline for all wounds and lesions. You can also buy it at the drugstore. It is balanced with the body fluids, so it won’t swell tissue cells or irritate already compromised skin. The salt dehydrates and kills microbes, and healthy cells needed to heal the sores are not destroyed by it.
You should gently remove the MTG and scabs. cleanse the open sores with Hibiscrub, and flush with the saline. Then dry them thoroughly. I use cotton makup removal pads for this. Once the scabs are completely debrided to fully expose the skin, that is all you need to do. But if the sores are bleeding, I use a collagen gel called EMT (available online or at tractor/farm supply stores). Apply a thin layer to each cleaned and completely dried open sore. Collagen is the foundation protein in all connective tissues, and this gel supports healing of open wounds and lesions. It adheres very well and will protect the sores from insects and debris. Sores usually heal within a day or two with this treatment.

EDIT….antifungals are for fungus infections. They do nothing for bacterial infections. This is a bacterial infection. The reason it takes so long to heal rain rot when using antifungals and MTG is because you are actually helping the infection to thrive.

My horse has white stuff on his back, what is it?

My gelding often gets white stuff on his back. First I thought he was rolling in milk weed but its not that. He was being kept in a larger solitary roomy barn with a nice run away from our main stable since he’s so aggressive towards other horses. Well today I moved him back into the main stable after I lunged him. I had already groomed the white stuff off, and now I hosed him. Then I put an old fly sheet on him and put him in his stall. (our stalls have runs but they are just dirt, there are no plants or anything in them.) When I came out later in the afternoon and took his sheet offf his back was covered with that awfull looking milky colored substance. And I had hosed him down earlier. I thought it might have come off the sheet, he’s gotten it before after he wore that sheet, but not as much as this time. Usually its just a few spots but this time it was all over his quarters over his croup. It comes about half way up his back from his rump, and its only on his back not his sides.
None of our other horses have this, so its not in their stalls or runs, thats why I thought it was comming from his own little barn. But since it appeared again after I moved him as stated earlier, I know its not. Its not rain rot or anything like that because it grooms off. Any ideas of what this is? I’ve been wondering for quite a while and it doesn’t appear to be affecting him at all. I also thought that there might be something on the sheet, but it appears on him even when he’s not wearing that sheet. Any ideas?
There is no hair loss. Not mites, he doesn’t itch it, and doesn’t appear to care when I itch it. It feels like he has dried milk or milk weed sap (or whatever you call the stuff in milk weeds) on him.

your horse is just sweating and when the sweat dries it leaves behind a little salt and other minerals. the reason he had so much on him after you took off the fly sheet is because it was probably hot and he sweet more with it on. don’t worry about the white stuff it will not hurt him at all if you keep it brushed off of him regularly so it does not accumulate.
