How much time must pass between taking a dressage lesson/clinic with a judge and riding under them at a show?

I should add:
(1) it’s not that I think the judge will be biased or not, I know that there actually IS a USDF or USEF rule that prohibits a rider from being judged by their instructor – i just can’t find where it says how long that is!
(2) this judge was my trainer for 5 years before I moved away – i still take lessons from her every now and then
it doesn’t matter. They should not be bias about how they place you, and if they are they are a very un-fair judge (theres one too many of those on the circuit that i use to show on)

It really shouldn’t matter. If it’s a good judge, they should be unbiased in their opinion.

It shouldn’t matter. My friend sent her horse to train with someone for a month, and that woman ended up being her judge at their next show (one month later). They scored well, but it was an honest scoring. A good trainer/judge won’t let their past history with a competitor reflect in their scoring.

Taking a horse to a clinic with someone, then showing under them – it is not very likely that they will recognize you while you are doing your test.
I used to work at a place where a dressage judge gave lessons and she recognized me when I walked up to talk to her, but it did not click while I was actually doing my test.
I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you.

At least dressage is a scorable class. HUS or pleasure would be different. Perform your movements correctly and you’ll score accordingly.

I had to be a dressage writer for this judge a few months ago , little did I know she was judging me the next day !! So I got to know what she was really picky on etc , and I actually won my class ha ! But it was a good experience . Use it to your advantage
