horse stuff?

okay so im gonna need a saddle, tack, lead rope, halter, saddle pad, and blanket? am i missing anything? why do i need a blanket again?
i know i need brushes and stuff i was just talking about the other kind of stuff.

Are you looking to buy a horse? It so you will need the basics:
Saddle – well-fitting and safe
Saddle Pad – thick enough to provide sufficient padding not so much that it interferes. (NO gel)
Girth – Fits horse/saddle and doesnt rub
Stirrups – English: 4 3/4 inchs is generally a good size. Western: Not sure (No plastic! They are not safe at all)
Stirrup Leathers: English: match saddle Western: come with the saddle
Bridle: Fits horse and doesnt rub
Reins: Pony sized for pony and horse sized for horse
Bit: Unless your horses needs more a snaffel it good
Halter: These come in fun colors and stuff but get a leather one or one with break away pieces (I cannot stress this enough)
Leadrope: 10 feet preferably cotton
Blanket: LOADS of theses! Basic ones are a thick winter blanket and thinner rain sheet. Fly sheets, scrim sheets, heavier/lighter sheets there are even more. Blankets are used to keep a horse warm in the winter when his coat is not enough. They can also be used to prevent a thick winter coat or protect a shaved horse. Other sheets have different uses but they arent completely necessary.
Brushes: Minimum: rubber curry comb, hard/dandy brush, soft brush, hoof pick. A mane/tale brushe, face brush, gel curry and random other brushes are good to have
Boots: I recomend protective boots for your horse. Splint, medicine, jump, galloping ect…

Random things that are good to have:
Extra halter/leadline/reins/leathers/girth/everything
I like having different bits/nosebands to use if my horses is just having an issue
Fly mask
Fly Spray/Detangler
Bell Boots (especially if your horse has shoes)
I love collecting random objects as well cause you never know when you will need them.

Brush, curry comb, hoof pick. Water & feed buckets. Hay fork & shovel. The blanket is for "cooling down" when she is hot & sweaty. Cover her & walk her until she cools down.

Fly spray! It’s summer, fly spray is a muuuust.
It’s not a bad idea to keep some wraps handy incase of an injury, also first aid equptment such as wound cleaner, cotton rolls, and bandages.
    Bridle-bit and reins
Leather oil/soap to clean your tack with
    Splint boots, bell boots
Also some riding apparel-whatever is appropriate to the type of riding you plan on doing (helmet, chaps, breeches, boots, gloves, etc etc)

    And grooming supplies:
curry comb, hard brush, soft brush, hoof pick, mane/tail comb, clippers, shampoo, shedding blade, sweat scraper, show sheen perhaps

For the most part, or at some stables, the equipment and lead rope and halter are already provided. Also, it really depends where you live. For example, I live in the NJ/NY area and I have 6 different horse blankets. I have a medium weight rambo, a Baker sheet, and a rambo stable blanket for cold weather (some people have an additional Witney Square Blanket). Then I have a fly sheet, a light Weatherbea stable blanket for the fall, and a cooler. Sometimes I borrow my trainers sweat-sheet. I would worry about keeping a tack trunk with some first-aid products and your own apparel equipment. If you can, see if you can borrow horse equipment if the stable doesn’t provide. If you don;t have that luxury, look into consignment or if you have an extra 4 grand available to spend, get excellent quality leather goods that will last you a life time if you take proper care of it. Good luck with you shopping!

For fly spray, BE CAREFUL. My horse had allergic reactions to fly spray. They tend to be expensive, too. My trainer, Meredith Taylor says it’s not really necessary either. For different alternatives for grooming products, buy furniture polish. It works better than Show Sheen and less expensive. Also, do not buy shampoos that contain sodium in it. It removes natural oils in the horse’s coat and makes it duller instead of shinier.

Many horses don’t actually need blankets. A lot of it will depend on where you live (how cold it gets in the winter) and whether or not you intend to body clip your horse during cold weather.

I have heavy, waterproof blankets for my 3 horses, but I only use them when it’s both cold and wet in the winter time. Because I don’t clip my horses, they usually only need their blankets 2 or 3 times per winter. If your horse will be kept in a stall during inclement weather, and/or you live in a climate that dosen’t get very cold in the winter, you might be able to skip a blanket.
