You can do both divisions, both Novice and your age group. Just check the show bill as sometimes novice riders can’t cross enter into some classes. If you still aren’t sure, check with the show management… they should be more than happy to help you with your questions.

Of course you can just do your age group! I know what you mean novice classes were so boring and everyone in them were so much younger then I was! But yes if you are confident enough in your riding then skip novice and just do 14-17! Just keep in mind 14+ will be a lot more competitive then novice! Hope I helped! Blessings

You dont have to, you can do anything you qualify for. (: you could even do both if you want, but the 14+ might be a little bit more competitive then novice. If I were you I would do novice if its your first show. I did novice last year because I hadnt won three or more ribbons. I dominated in novice this year, not to brag. But when I did my age group, I found it to be a bit more competive. Its because anyone who is 14-17 can do those classes. They could have have been riding since they were 3 and do that class, or they could be riding for 3 months and do that class. Its all up to you. If you want a little less competition for your first show to get your confidence up, go for novice. If you wanna challenge yourself from the straightaway, try 14+. (: Good luck!

I would go in your age group and depending on the size of the show, also the Novice, if its a small show i’d go in the open also. The more ring experience the better, but I tend to stay away from classes with 60 people in them that only break in half . I learned my lesson, haha.

Because it’s a schooling show you go by what ever they want to call you. A schooling show is run by the barn- they arn’t rated, aka they don’t really mean a lot in the big horse world.

I don’t see why you can’t do your age class, but because it’s a schooling show they could have other reasons, like they want to build your confidence or something.

For my first show, I entered anything with the words "novice" or "open" and "galloway 14.2-15hh" and excluding the word "show" (I was there for the riding more than the presentation)
One of them was "Open girl rider, 13-14-15yo" (I got a 4th ribbon) another was "Novice rider, 13-18yo" (I placed 3rd)

So no, you dont HAVE to ride in the novice classes, you’d probably have the most chance of a ribbon in them, but you can show in anything thats related to you and your horse

There’s nothing that says that you HAVE to do the novice but if its you and your horses first show I would highly recommend it. Next time you show you can decide which class you should be on based on what you see at this show. Good Luck.

You don’t HAVE to do the Novice classes, but they’re usually less competitive than 14-17 classes.

It’s because the people in the classes usually newer to showing, so not one person in that class has been winning everything from since they were 2.

You can do 14-17. Anybody can enter into that class so long as they are the appropriate age. You can also do the novice class because it is your first show. You might prefer the novice class since it's your first show and there is less pressure.
