well ive got a horse who is of palomino colour. im not 100% sure what his breed is but from the person i bought him off they said hes a station bred stock horse, but were not really sure if hes cross with anything. so i was wondering if i could register him as a palomino, and if i could what requirements would there have to be if you know.

If you are in Australia it may be possible for you to register him through the dilute registry. It is open to palominos, buckskins, duns, cremellos etc of any breed/size/shape as long as they are of correct colour. I don’t know if you need to be registered through a breed society to then be eligible for the dilute/colour registry though.

I will try find the link for you. I am not sure if this is the one I was looking for, they always advertise in Horsedeals in the coloured sections.

I only read over some of the info quickly and it looks like you may need to know parentage as well, but it would be worth seeing if it was possible. Good Luck

Howdy! Correct, palomino is not a breed but a coat color. You will need to get him DNA tested to see what breed he really is first. This does not require a vet to come to you, just call the vet and see where the closest lab is that can do the test – need to pull about 20-30 hairs with root attached, put in baggy and ship off. Once you get what BREED he is, then you can register him with that association as palomino – but you did not attach a pic so I couldn’t tell you if he his or not. If you google palomino, there are tons of sites to compare your horse to. Good luck!

HOWEVER there is a Palomino breeders association. There website is here
    http://www.palominohba.com/

Also there is a Palomino Exhibitors Association in several states…I did a google search here
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=XnQ&q=palomino+exhibitors+association&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g-m4
So you can see if your state is there.

There is a Palomino Horse Association but their website doesn’t look very professional, I’ll let you decide for yourself!

Palominos may not be a breed but that is no reason that people who love Palominos shouldn’t be able to get together and show and do whatever they want to so long as it’s not hurting anyone :) have fun with your Palomino!

ETA* I found the requirements page in the Breeders Association…

I’m thinking you need answers only from the people in UK countries (England, Canada, Australia) – because in the United States there is no registry for Palomino horses. In the US Palomino is a color but in the UK, it’s recognized as a breed.
