SOLD – Easy to ride $550. Very nice, friendly 9 yr. old, 10.2h grade mare pony that wants a regular job. We call her Misty. She’s broke to ride, she just needs someone to spend some more time in the saddle to polish her up; she’s pulled a cart in the past and she’s even been trail ridden. She absolutely cannot be jumped due to a past leg injury that happened to her 7 yrs ago that required surgery — she’s fine to ride at walk-trot (and she actually prefers not to canter with a rider on); however when turned out in the pasture with all the other horses she runs and gallops around just fine with them. The rider should be confident in their seat and ride with quiet hands (thus adv. beginner stage) because she stops with the very slightest rein cue and a verbal “Whoa” — she has a very soft mouth so light, gentle bit cues along with verbal commands are all that’s required to control her. She’s not that runaway type pony like so many others that take a strong arm to stop or control.
She loves attention and is very easy to catch — actually she’s usually the first one to the gate to greet you. Her temperament would be about a 4 or 5 (on scale of 1-10) only because she’s not being ridden a lot here. With more consistent work I feel she could even be a 3. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body however her ground manners require an attentive handler (on their toes) because at times she can seem nervous or quick moving (a confident child handler would be fine but someone more timid may feel like she’s being a bit pushy). She loads onto the trailer fine, she stands for farrier but she absolutely does not like to be sprayed and doesn’t like her annual shots — but we do them anyhow; we usually just place her against the wall of her stall and get her done.
She was ridden walk-trot in 4-H about 4 yrs. ago however I feel she would be best suited for someone not doing a lot of showing but rather just wanting to do backyard riding, some regular walk-trot lessons or some trail riding — or possibly even use her as a broodmare. She was micro chipped as part of the State 4-H program initiative back in 2007. She is a very easy keeper — she stays fat on just pasture / hay. She’s fat now since she’s not being worked or ridden. She has very good feet, has never foundered and doesn’t require shoes, just regular trimmings.
She’s current on all her shots and has a negative coggins (all done on May 18, 2010). I’d be glad to provide my vet information and you can call them for any questions. Her price in no way reflects her quality (even with the past leg injury). She has lots of potential to make some little rider very happy – - I just don’t have a small rider here to ride her regularly and you can tell she wants to be used. I’ve ridden her around my place occasionally with just a bareback pad and bridle just to keep her reminded about proper riding cues, etc. She does take a saddle as well.
I’ve owned her since 2003 and I am only looking to find her a good permanent home where she’ll be used regularly. So if you’re a family looking to move up from that mini or just to get your first small pony, here’s a good girl to do the job for you. NO DEALERS PLEASE. I do have video available of her that shows a teen working with her (catching, grooming, etc.) and then riding her bareback (and this rider doesn’t even horseback ride — she’s a cart driver). This video shows Misty being ridden after standing for over 6 wks. — so just imagine her potential if someone was to ride her regularly. She’s such a doll and has a willingness to please.
